Some of you might be wondering : What is Savasana? How is it beneficial to my mental and physical wellbeing? Savasana is usually the last pose after a Yoga practice and is a great balancer in terms of our nervous system. While much of the physical Yoga practice is designed to up-regulate the body and stimulate, Savasana is the down-regulator.

During Savasana the practitioner shifts away from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic side, and experience a calming soothing release. Over time, Savasana helps us to decrease anxiety. With its regular practice shifting away from hyper-stimulation to a state of down-regulation and to a place where digestion, the immune system, and other essential systems are restored and enhanced.

However all of the above mentioned practices provide substantial & essential health benefits reaching a deep state of relaxation of the nervous system by activating and engaging the biggest nerve, the Vagus Nerve. The Vagus Nerve when engaged is responsible for getting us out of the fight flight, freeze mode. Psychologists state that what we call (Mental) Illness is basically a Nervous System Dysregulation. 

So it would make sense to strengthen the Vagus Nerve, right?
